Alumni couple funds modern sanitation facilities for Nkonya Senior High School.
Nkonya Senior High School has received a significant boost to its infrastructure, thanks to the generosity of alumni couple Richard Kojo Acheampong and his wife, Joan Asare-Acheampong.

The couple funded and oversaw the construction of a state-of-the-art 12-seater modern washroom facility and the renovation of a 10-cubicle modern bathhouse for the girls' dormitory. The project, valued at over $30,000, was completed within four months and has already been handed over to the school for immediate use.
A timely intervention
At a short ceremony to mark the handover, headmaster Mr Ansah Kwabena Moses expressed deep gratitude to the Acheampongs, describing the donation as a timely intervention that directly improves students' health and well-being.
Mr Moses also appealed for further support, highlighting critical gaps in the school's facilities. These include the absence of a sick bay, the need for education management software, urgent renovations to dormitory blocks, and transportation infrastructure, particularly a pick-up vehicle for administrative work.
Giving back to the community
Speaking to the media, Richard Kojo Acheampong reflected on the pivotal role Nkonya Senior High played in his own life. He explained that a visit to the school in December revealed the deplorable condition of the sanitation facilities, which compelled him and his wife to act.
This donation not only addresses an urgent health concern but also demonstrates our commitment to giving back to the community that shaped us.
Richard further called on individuals, organisations, and government to support schools like Nkonya Senior High, stressing that investing in education is a collective responsibility. He emphasised the importance of private initiatives in complementing government efforts in strengthening Ghana's education sector.
A school with a proud legacy
Founded in 1964 by the chiefs and elders of the Nkonya community, the school has grown to become a centre of academic excellence. Today it operates with a dedicated staff of 85, and has produced outstanding graduates who continue to contribute to Ghana and beyond.
Despite its proximity to the disputed Nkonya to Alavanyo land, Mr Moses reassured parents that the school has always remained a safe haven for students, unaffected by the conflict.
The way forward
The Acheampongs' donation highlights how alumni and the private sector can play a crucial role in addressing infrastructural challenges in education. By providing modern sanitation facilities, they have not only improved living conditions for students but also set an example of community-driven development.
As the headmaster and alumni continue to appeal for more support, the story of Nkonya Senior High underscores a powerful truth: when communities come together, the future of education, and the youth who depend on it, becomes brighter.
