About / Our Purpose

Closing the sanitation gap.

Billions of people still lack access to safe toilets and hygiene facilities. We exist to change that — community by community, school by school.

Around the world, the absence of basic sanitation contributes to preventable disease, environmental damage and entrenched inequality. By building infrastructure and creating safe community spaces, we help close that gap — but our purpose runs deeper than concrete.

The African context

Many countries on the continent lack adequate school sanitation due to limited investment in infrastructure. Public schools bear the brunt — especially rural ones. The result is a cycle: poor hygiene leads to outbreaks of cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid, hepatitis A and polio, which spread quickly in close school environments.

Why girls are most affected

  • During menstruation, girls without privacy or proper facilities often skip school entirely.
  • Long-term, this absence widens gender gaps in education outcomes.
  • Teachers and staff also lose productivity to illness from unhygienic conditions.

What it takes to fix it

Real change requires four things working together: adequate facilities, clean water for handwashing, hygiene education, and reliable menstrual hygiene management resources. Without all four, the cycle continues.

Our purpose is to build the infrastructure — and then stay long enough to make sure it lasts.
